Kirk Players has a policy of open casting but will endeavor to cast its active members where ever possible.
Kirk Players understands the importance of being cast. None of the guidelines in the casting policy are meant to diminish the capacity of the Artistic Director and the Production Director from being creative in casting decisions. These guidelines are meant to encourage the "stretching" of less experienced Members, casting "out of character" for more experienced Members, or any other casting strategies that will provide strong casts for each Production, personal development for each Member, and positive growth for the entire organization. |
Casting is a collaborative process between the Artistic Director and the Production Director, with the Artistic Director providing the final decision.
Casting objectives provide the Production’s Director with the best cast for that Production, while maintaining the following: 1. Members should be given every consideration. Every effort should be made to cast Members who have not been recently cast. 2. Guest performers are a valuable resource. When casting guest performers, a higher consideration may be given to potential new Members. Guests whom we are actively recruiting; and guests who have never worked with Kirk Players, may be considered before guests who have no interest in becoming a Member. Casting decisions for each Production should be based upon: 1. The Artistic Director’s and the Production Director’s judgment on how well the actor fits the character; 2. The Artistic Director’s and the Production Director’s knowledge of the actor’s abilities and experience; and 3. The actor’s availability for rehearsal.
